JAYCEE DUGARD,A True Heart Breaking Story: How An Innocent American Girl Lost Her Childhood By The Casualness Of California Police.
How do you feel when you hear, an 11-year girl was kidnapped by someone and was kept hidden from the outer world for 18 years, had no connection with her mother, father, sister, relatives and was raped brutally again and again in a nasty hut.
The California police department failed to locate the kidnapped girl until 2009, 18 years after her abduction. For another reason, she came to F.B.I. office with her kidnapper and identified herself as “Jaycee Dugard” ,the girl who had been kidnapped nearly two decades earlier. To everyone’s surprise, Jaycee was accompanied by her two daughters. Want to learn more about this astonishing story? Read the article.

The day of the Incident
Jaycee Dugard, who was a very shy girl, was in fifth grade, lived in the city of Arcadia, California, USA.Her family came from Los Angeles to Meyers, a rural town south of South Lake Tahoe, California, in 1991. They shifted there because they thought it was a safer community.
It was June 10 1991 it was a normal morning, her mother came home from the print house. 11-year Jessy went to pick up the school bus and walked up to the hill from her house, When she was halfway up to the hill, a man called her.
Jaycee suddenly came down and walked to the car and rolled down in the window, suddenly the man & a woman forcefully pulled her into the Car by showing a stun gun and abducted her.

Jaycee was pushed down in the car and she was a little bit unconscious(Think the situation was faced by an 11year little girl).

Carl Probyn witnessed the abduction who was the stepfather of Jaycee. He put him on his bike and chased but was unable to overtake the vehicle. Some of Dugard’s classmates also saw the kidnapping. But they couldn’t do anything.
After three hours of journey, the Kidnappers arrived at their home in a remote area in Contra Costa County(California) Taking her from the car into their land kept her in a backyard area where storage units stood. They locked her in a semi-dark room and handcuffed her tightly.
Brutal Behaviours

Now the vulgar story started. The man forcefully naked the 11-year girl, then he raped her again and again until his lust was fulfilled. After that, he handcuffed her and threw her as naked and in the nasty darkroom, locked from behind and warned her that Dogs were waiting outside and that if she tried to escape they would kill her. Jaycee was shocked, felt pain but was still speechless, maybe, she felt if she cried or shouted, more brutal things might happen.
Do you imagine an 11-year little girl who didn’t has a little bit of idea about sex…raped again and again in a nasty dark area and there is nobody to help her. It is hard to believe How how !!!!a man could be brutal who does like this!!
Kidnapers
It was Philip Garrido a 40-year man & The woman was Nancy Bocanegra who was the girlfriend of Garrido who kidnapped Jaycee. Garrido was already convicted of kidnapping a 25-year girl named Katherine Callaway. Katherine was kidnapped and raped by Garrido for five and a half hours. But an efficient police officer heard the shout of the girl and arrested Garrido immediately.

He was sentenced to 50 years in jail. But how did he kidnap Jaycee ????

Because at That time Garrido was on Parole. It was a big mistake of the police that they didn’t follow his movement during his parole time and didn’t search his home after the abduction of Jaycee Dugard, as he was convicted of the same type of crime.
Search Efforts
Within hours of Dugard’s disappearance, media personnel raised a search process by showing pictures of the missing girl throughout the USA. Within a few days, plenty of volunteers assisted in the search effort, they searched every possible place and they arranged Banners, and posters were spread everywhere in the community. Terry Probyn(Jaycee’s stepfather) organised a group named “Jaycee’s Hope”, which gathered plenty of volunteers who were engaged in search efforts within America.

A reward was offered. To gather nationwide attention the media arranged a show on television called “America’s Most Wanted”but all efforts failed, nobody could trace the girl.

Pregnancy and Children
After Thirty-four months of captivity, Garrido gave freedom from her handcuffs for periods of time and most of the time they(Gardo & Nancy) kept her locked in the bolted room. On April 3, 1994,(after 3 years) Easter Sunday, they gave her cooked food for the first time(it shows how they tortured the girl) and told her that they were thinking that she was pregnant.
The first child was born when Dugard was 14, on August 18, 1994. Her second daughter was born when Jaycee was 17, on November 13, 1997.
Rays of Hope
In her captivity Jaycee hopes that someday will come to rescue her or Garrido will release her…one day will come…. and she will be free forever. Three incidents make her hope possible but bad luck follows her.
i) About one year after, One day Garrido told Jaycee to sit in the car, it was evening time. Nancy removed her handcuff. Jaycee was so surprised & happy, she thought that Garrido might be releasing her and was returning her to her house. She sat silently in the car. Garrido started the car…came outside….Jaycee felt so relaxed…the road, the lights, the people…she felt so relaxed. After sometimes Garrido stopped the car near a gas station and talked with some people.
Jaycee was so excited….today she would meet her mom, sister, friends, her own place, her own people, her own ground…she woke up when Garrido came and started the car and after some time….Oh…God…they arrived at the same place..Garrido’s house. Jaycee was so frustrated, she cried, Garrido pulled her from the car and threw her into the house, handcuffing her tightly. Jaycee cried…whole night and fell into a deep sleep.
ii) About three years after her kidnapping. One day she saw a policeman taking Garrido, she expected that today she would be free because when the policeman entered the back Jaycee would say that she was “Jaycee Dugard” Who was kidnapped 3 years ago. She will sout…please rescue us…they kidnapped me…. But….oh…God the man didn’t enter the house, he turned back from the gate. She was utterly disappointed but remained calm & quiet.
iii) The same thing happened on another day when another policeman talked for about 30 minutes at the front gate but didn’t enter in the backwards.
Became a Family Member of Garrido
In the last couple of years, Jaycee helped Garrido in his printing business where Jaycee acted as the graphic artist. Ben Daughdrill, a customer, claimed that he met and spoke with Jaycee by telephone and her work was excellent. During this time, Jaycee had access to the business phone and an email account. Another customer said that she never hinted to him about her childhood abduction or her true identity. (It is assumed that she lost her original identity and believed that, this life was her actual life).
Captive Area

Jaycee’s living quarters were in a secondary backyard behind Garrido’s house. She lived in a soundproofed room which was used as a recording studio in which Garrido recorded religious-themed songs, There were two homemade tents, which were used for showers and toilets. The area was covered by trees and a 6-foot high fence. There was a car covered with tents. Electricity was supplied by extension cords.
Many people saw Jaycee in the house, and sometimes answered at the front door to talk to people, but never stated that there was a problem or she wanted to leave. The girls were sometimes seen playing in the garden. They lived like a happy family. It seemed that Jaycee lost her original identity and became Garrido’s wife.
The Discovery
On August 24, 2009, Garrido went to the San Francisco office of the FBI and wrote a four-page essay containing his ideas about religion and sexuality. The essay described how he had cured his criminal sexual behaviours and how that information could be used to assist in curing other sexual predators by controlling human impulses. On the 25th they also visited the same places and talked with girls, the police were a little bit anxious and visited Garrido’s house but didn’t find anything and told Garrido they should visit the FBI office the next day.

Garrido arrived at the parole office in Concord, California, on August 26, 2009, with his wife Nancy, the two girls, and Jaycee, who was introduced as “Allissa”.The parole officer decided to separate Garrido from the women and girls to obtain their identification and asked “Allissa” about her true Identity. At first, Jaycee denied telling her true identity and certified Garrido that he was a good man, and then Garrido told the police that she was “Jaycee Dugard” who was kidnapped by him!!!!!!!!.
Garrido and his wife were under arrest. Garrido was punished for 431 years and Nancy was given 36 years of imprisonment.
Jaycee talked on the telephone with her mother and soon reunited with her family. In the days following Jaycee’s return, Carl Probyn(stepfather of Jaycee) said that Jaycee’s daughters were very intelligent. He said that Jaycee had developed a significant emotional bond with Garrido and the two daughters cried when they heard about their father’s punishment.
Conclusion
It is clear that the police department is entirely liable for the massacre because they did not conduct a thorough search for Jacee. The following points show that The California Police was very casual about the case.
i) Police failed to make the link between that Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped south of South Lake Tahoe, at that same place as Garrido’s kidnapped and raped of Katherine Callaway Hall.
ii)More than a year after her kidnapping, a man informed the police that he saw Jacee Dugard in the gas station but the police didn’t take any steps.
iii)One of Garrido’s neighbours called 911 to inform them that there were tents in the backyard and they saw a woman with children. Police went to Garrido’s house and spoke with Garrido at the front of the house for about 30 minutes and left without searching the house properly.
**When Jacee Dugard was found in August 2009, the Contra Costa County Sheriff, Warren E. Rupf, issued an apology to Jaycee and her family in a news conference.
In 2010, the State of California awarded the Dugard family US$20 million. Jaycee wrote two books about her life in captivity. The first one is “A Stolen Life” and the book, “Freedom: My Book of Firsts”, which was published in 2016.
